Real Estate & Design
Allambie Heights is characterised by its wide, leafy streets which run off Allambie Road. Some character-filled weatherboard cottages from the nineteenth century can still be found in Allanbie Heights, but most homes here were built in the twentieth century and occupy large garden blocks. Designed to accommodate large families, many homes in the suburb have a minimum of three bedrooms along with generous living areas. Given its elevation, some homes in Allambie Heights enjoy sweeping ocean views. Many homes in Allambie and Allambie Heights have been enlarged and upgraded with spectacular results, which has seen the area rapidly grow in value. It is one of the few areas on the Northern Beaches of Sydney that has not been spoilt by large apartment blocks.
Shopping
Residents of Allambie Heights have great access to shops. Allambie Heights really does offer a village shopping experience, with a handy selection of local stores including an IGA supermarket, florist, hairdresser, butcher, bakery and newsagency. Warringah Mall – the largest shopping complex in the Northern Beaches – is a short drive from Allambie Heights. It’s home to several department stores and supermarkets, a multiplex cinema, a library and an expansive food court. Warringah Mall had a $310 Million redevelopment in 2016 so it offers a truly wonderful shopping experience.
Restaurants and Cafés
Allambie Heights offers some well-regarded eateries including Mr Grigor’s Cafe, Beco The Heights, Crispy’s Pies, LaCrema Café and more. You you will sure to be delighted with the options available. You’ll see plenty of locals unwinding at outdoor tables with the papers here each weekend. Both Manly and Dee Why make popular alternatives for dining. Both offer everything from informal takeaways to fine-dining restaurants. Some, of course, offer diners incredible views of the ocean.
Schools, Education & Institutions
Popular with families, there are many services for under-fives in and around Allambie Heights including family daycare, long daycare centres and preschools. Educating local children for over 50 years, Allambie Heights Public School is a highly regarded primary school. Plus several other private primary schools are located in neighbouring suburbs. Secondary students are within easy reach of the many high schools in the area, including Forest High School and the three campuses of the Northern Beaches Secondary College. Locals also have excellent access to tertiary education with Brookvale TAFE a couple of minutes away and various universities located in the city centre (which is about 25 minutes’ drive away). For children with special needs, Arranounbai (located at the very top of Allambie Heights) offers an exceptional education for children with disabilities.
For medical needs Australia’s biggest hospital project is just up the road in Frenchs Forest. Opening in late 2018, Northern Beaches Hospital will care for public and private patients from an outstanding facility with a large range of quality services provided by exceptional nurses, doctors and staff.
Sports, Fitness and Recreation
Allambie Heights’s proximity to Sydney’s extraordinary northern beaches should motivate even the laziest among us to get outdoors. Locals are just 5 -10 minutes from incredible surfing beaches, with Curl Curl and Freshwater beaches among the closest. Narrabeen Lake is also nearby, providing another for those who like to exercise – or relax – on the water. Allambie Heights is also home to the Warringah Aquatic Centre (which offers a huge range of aquatic activities for children and adults) and Virgin Active Health Club. Here, as elsewhere in the Northern Beaches, locals have access to a wide range of sporting competitions, including netball, cricket, tennis, rugby, rugby league, soccer and athletics. The spectacular parks and reserves that give Allambie Heights its tranquil character also make great places to unwind. Along with the pristine bushland still found in parts of the Manly Dam Reserve and Garigal National Park, Allenby Park – criss-crossed by small creeks and waterfalls – makes an exceptional place to relax.
Distance from the CBD & Transport
If you happen to purchase a property in Allambie Heights, it is only 17 kilometres from the Sydney CBD and the journey by car takes about 20 – 30 minutes (pending traffic conditions). Residents of Allambie Heights also have good access to public transport. State Transit and Forest Coach Lines buses operate frequently in peak periods and provide a link to the CBD. Roseville Station is about ten minutes’ drive away and provides locals with access to frequent train services which operate on the Northern Line. There is also an approved tunnel which will dramatically reduce the time in which it will take to get to the city. When this is built the likelihood that property prices will rise significantly in Allambie Heights is very high.
